GTA: Mamaia Vice is a Romanian modification for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (GTA: VC), released in 2008, that transforms the seaside town of Mamaia in the 2000s into a virtual world. Compatible with Android, the mod includes Romanian vehicles, authentic coastal landscapes, and a soundtrack filled with dance and manele hits, recreating the unique atmosphere of the era.
It all started with a group of passionate teenagers who wanted to bring a bit of their Romania into Vice City's virtual world. Some were good at 3D modeling, others at textures, music, or just organizing and supporting forums. Each contributed what they knew best, and from this collaboration was born GTA Mamaia Vice — a unique Romanian mod made with heart.
Originally named GTA Vice City with Romanian cars, the project quickly evolved into a full-fledged mod, becoming a symbol for the Romanian GTA modding community. Thanks to Mamaia Vice, other mods also emerged, including the popular GTA Romania 2 and GTA Zimnicea Vice.
In September 2019, the first Android version of Mamaia Vice was launched. Over five years, the game has received many updates and improvements, constantly being adapted to newer Android versions.
The Android version was designed to be more user-friendly and accessible. It includes enhanced textures, graphic optimizations, advanced code, crucial fixes, and a fast, intuitive download system. The mod is simplified and compact, making it easy to install and use without technical complications.
It also features radio stations, sounds, textures, and other elements from GTA: Mamaia Vice 1.6, a project aimed at “completing” what was missing in version 1.5 without altering the original team's vision. This project was initiated by Claudiu Florea and Matt1010 in summer 2022, after Claudiu analyzed earlier versions and noted missing or improvable elements.
